The 5 Biggest Bikini Trends Set to Take Over in 2022

With 2022 just around the corner, it might be time to invest some serious thought into next year's beachwear.

If you like keeping up with fashion, then you know that trends are constantly changing. What was yesterday's hot topic can be today's "old news." That's why it's imperative to keep an eye on up-and-coming trends. If you want to rock summer in style, keep reading; we've got the details on the five biggest bikini trends set to take over 2022.

Popping Prints

Solid, block-coloured swimsuits are all well and good, but we're seeing animal-print bikinis on the rise again. And they're going fast. Many believe it's indicative of post-quarantine vibes; a visual representation of people yearning for something louder, bolder, brighter. Who are we to argue?

As far as print popularity is concerned, leopard seems to be dominating the charts—followed closely by zebra (particularly with one-piece bathing suits, we've noticed!). Other crowd favourites seem to be nature designs (i.e., large palm fronds) and geometric patterns.

Hot tip: get your prints in the hottest, trendiest colours of summer 2022. Fashion experts predict that warm, earth tones—plus nice, buttery yellows and oranges—will be all the rage next year.

Sporty Suits

If you've noticed a spike in long-sleeved, athletic-looking one- and two-piece suits on Insta, there's good reason. It seems that people are loving the look, feel, and support of sport-style swimwear tops and bottoms. Plus, the full coverage allows one to engage in more rigorous, athletic beach activities, risk-free.

From sports bra-esque cuts, fashionable rash-guard-style tops, and secure banded waistbands (sporting brand logos, of course), it seems the athletic silhouette is here to stay. Big brands like Nike, Next, and Tyr Active have plenty of options to choose from!

Scrunches & Ruffles

A big bikini trend for 2022 is subtle detailing. People want their swimwear to be one-of-a-kind, but not over-the-top. The two biggest contenders we've seen that are slowly (but surely) gaining popularity? Scrunch bottoms and ruffles.

Ruffle trim is a great way to add a feminine flair to a beach-ready silhouette. They're flirty, they're fluffy, and they make for beautiful, eye-catching accents.

Scrunch bottoms (also called scrunch butt bikinis) are basically bikini bottoms with a scrunch detail down the back centre of the panty. It's a bit cheeky, but for bolder babes, it's an excellent way of flattering and emphasising your bum.

We've seen this same detail done to swimsuits and bikini tops, where a scrunch detail is placed in the centre of the chest. However, it doesn't seem to have made quite the same waves as scrunch bottoms.

High-Waisted, Long-Legged

If you love high-waist bikini bottom cuts, you're in for a treat. They're all the rage nowadays, and we don't see that changing for 2022. Women seem especially fond of this strategic – yet stylish! – cut.

It comfortably covers the lower abdomen and highlights the tops of the legs. This shortens the torso and, in contrast, lengthens the legs. It's an incredibly flattering style that we're glad to see is still going strong. Strut your stuff, ladies.

Halter Tops & Knots

One of the best cuts that flatter your shoulders, collarbones, and upper back? A halter top. This style is the real hit of the season, as more and more women don bikini tops and swimsuits in this distinctive shape. It's often paired with a tie accent or knot detail to draw attention to the body's clean lines. Tie accents are also a great way to show off your curves.

Here's another hot tip: get a halter bikini top with straps around the bottom and a tie or knot detail at the collar. This will accentuate the shape of your torso and the slenderness of your shoulders!

So, quick recap; animal prints, ruffles and scrunches, sporty swimsuits, high-waist cut bikini bottoms, and halter bikini tops with knot details. Pick any or all that you feel suit you and get it in a warm, earthy colour.

Alternatively, step outside your comfort zone and pick a trend you're curious about but never actually tried. Live a little! You know what they say; new year, new you.
